Silica brick is widely used in the coke oven, glass furnace, calcining furnace and blast furnace. The compactness of silica brick has great effect on its quality.

The density and sintering capability are the two main factors that affect the compactness of silica bricks. When the additives are the same, the grain size (<0.088mm% / critical size mm %) decides brick sintering capacity.
 
When the critical size is 3mm and the particle size coefficient is with 0.75-1.00, the porosity, density and appearance of silica bricks are all good. When the critical size is different, the particle size coefficient is different and increases with the increase of critical size. The possibility of cracking and the density of silica bricks reduce with the decrease of critical size. 
 
Therefore, in order to increase the content of tridymite, reduce the change of volume and cracks and improve the rate of final products, small critical size is advantageous. The appropriate critical size of silica brick is 2-3mm. When quartz is used as the raw material, the large maximum particle size is 2mm.
