The Manufacturing Process of Silica Brick

Silica brick is a type of high quality silica refractory containing more than 93% SiO2. It is made of silica rock as raw material with addition of mineralizing agents and binders by sintering at 1400-1430℃.
The Manufacturing Process of Silica Brick
Silica brick has high softening temperature under load, close to its refractoriness. This is its biggest advantage. It is a typical acid brick. It has poor volume stability at high temperature. When it is heated, residual expansion occurs. It is mainly used in acid electric arc furnaces, roof of the continuous furnaces, coke ovens, glass furnaces, etc.
 
1) The manufacturing process of silica brick includes Crushing, kneading, molding, drying, firing, inspecting and packing.
2) Silica rock is crushed and ground into particles. The particles are used as raw materials after screened. 
3) Knead the materials uniformly to avoid defects.  
4) Silica brick can be molded by hand or machine. Bricks with simple shape can be mass produced by machine. Those products have dense structure and low porosity. 
5) Then bricks are dried in a tunnel kiln at 120℃.
6) Then bricks are fired at 1500℃. The fuel is coal gas. The shuttle kiln is highly automatized and has high output. 
7) After cooling, the products are inspected. The inspection includes physical inspection and chemical inspection. Physical inspection includes the inspection of length, width, height, porosity and creep. Chemical inspection is generally the inspection of chemical composition. 
8) Qualified products are packed. Unqualified products are recycled as the raw material.
